Ongoing question -Mac or PC?

Hello,

I am new to the forums and apologize in advance if this topic has been beaten to death. I have a dilemma- my wife and I will be getting a new machine in '07. I understand that it depends on the applications that you use that will determine whether to get a Mac or a PC. However, it seems that I use all applications and want to have my cake and eat it too.

I currently have a PC and never owned a Mac. I use the machine for business apps and for gaming. Some of the games that I play are not offered on a Mac.

I also have an extensive itunes library (55+ gig of music) and am starting to use a video camera and take lots of pictures (just had a little one)... so the ilife suite is very appealing.

Another question- if I were to play games that are exclusive to PC and Windows (Guild Wars) - Can I run this on a Bootcamp equipped machine?

Can you guys please help point us in the right direction?

PC macs arnt for gaming and don't have alot of avalible storage I recommend you build your own PC
 
i pretty much had the same dilema as you just before christmas but i went with the pc option. i dont regret it at all. you can get adequate video editing software for pc
 
I would get a PC because you can get many good programs for windows that you can't on a mac. I use Adobe Elements for photos and there are many good programs like Sony Vegas for video editing and it will play all of your games.
 
MAC's User interface is very nice, but the end of the day it comes down to compatabilaty and so you would probably be safer with a PC

Have you ever tried this yourself?
YOU CAN'T DO IT.
It takes quite a lot of effort.
A. Mac has a list of processors that it will only run on, not what processors it is compatible with.
B. If you do manage to get it working with a pc, just about no devices will work on it.

I can't tell you exactly why you can't do it and what is required to do it without explaining what to do to get mac os x to run on a PC.

Bottom line, you can't do it without "hacking" it.
 
definately PC, for your purposes of gaming and storage a PC is definately the way to go. Core 2 Duo and you will be flying high. build it, save a ton o money, get the best performance, and you wont regret anyhing

Is there any site that may be able to walk me through it? I would love to give this a shot- BUT- I am not a techie- although I have changed video cards and added componentry to my machines in the past-

Do you think it would be doable for me to build my own?
 
very doable to build on your own, its not hard at all.

whats your budget? ill give you some parts to start you off

My budget is around 2500-

And I will be waiting until Vista is stable as I do not want to upgrade Video Cards immediately after Directx10 is a staple-
 
apple computers have the advantage of being built BY apple, so they're extremely well built, and well tuned for the operating system, compared to most brand name pc's.

Even a prebuilt pc with a dual core or 64bit processor (or a dual core 64 bit) can be outfitted with some extremely low latency ram, and give the apples a run for their money, tho.

$ for $ and real world performance, PC's are where my money's at.

If you wanna set it up and forget it, tho, apples obviously have fewer compatability issues, and come outfitted with extremely fast ram, which is what gives them an edge with programs like photoshop, and video editing programs.

For gaming, general office useage, and if you're not afraid of upgrades, and problem solving, then PC's will give you a lot more bang for your buck.
 
ill supply you with a parts list tomorrow. What are you using it for again? because 2500 building is a ton.

and if you are going to wait for Vista to become stable though, you will be waiting until like june 2008
 
Hi,

I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I installed Vista Ultimate on my Dell Latitude D600 and don't regret it. It comes with all the default software XP comes with and some Extra's. And I have always been partial to the PC

We will be using the machine for gaming, business apps, music storage, and photo and video storage/very very light editing.

The $2500 that I allocated was based on the cost of a new PC as I have never built a PC before- if I could do it cheaper, I'd love to!!
 
you could build the same comp as mine (seen in sig) for around $2000 w/ an OS

oh crap jk...i forgot i just changed my sig....ill try and make a build for you right now
