online gaming and my router

Hi i have a Netgear RangeMax Next WNR834B router and three pcs hardwired to it, im on virgin media 20 mb internet and the problem is that i have just hardwired the third pc and we are all playing cod4 on the same server are pings start at around 30-40 but every minute or so all our ping shoot up to 300-500. My question is should my router be able to cope with three pcs online gaming at the same time?

Your router should be fine. It may be your service provider, even though its a 20mb line.

Cheers mate it turns out my provider was having some heavy traffic
