Does anyone know who's program this is? I am using SBC Yahoo with PC-cillin anti-virus program. After I updated windows xp from the internet this program showed up and it turned off the PC-cillin anti-virus function. Is it a Microsoft program? And if so, can I turn it off or delete it so that I can continue using PC-cillin? I'm not very good with computers so if someone can help me out I'll be very grateful.

did u happen by any chance know what kind of program it was? what was it caled?

and did it turn off pc-cillin permanently or just when you update?

Hi...Thanks for replying.

I have no idea where it came from. I did a Windows update, after that I noticed it on my desktop as a shortcut called "Online Security Center". Now when I open up PC-cillin to do a scan, I noticed that the anti-virus scan bottun is disabled. I tried to use the remove program function, but it doesn't show up in the registry. Any ideas?

Oh..forgot to mention that I did a windows update since the computer prompted me to. A window opened up saying I have to update the program.

hmm.. did u click on the shortcut on your desktop? does it load up a program or does it load up a website with your browser?

It loads up a program if I remember correctly, I'm not in front of that computer right now, using a computer from my work.

a program? couldn't find any program related to "online security center" .. well, do you remember which updates you downloaded from microsoft? or did u just select all that it shown.. hopefully none of your programs are not pirated or anything..

is ur copy of pc-cillin a full copy? or trial? if its a trial i believe virus scanning is disabled after the trial period ends.. can it be that? if u have a full version, have you tried repairing it? if it has that feature.. if u have a backup antivirus utility, you can try running that if it detected anything..

The pc-cillin is a full copy. When I updated windows, it didn't give me options, I just clicked on the update button. I believe I have been infected since I keep getting a pop up on I.E. with the address "www.search2k.net" and now the computer runs very slow.

Stupid me...I also forgot to mention that besides "Online Security Center" shortcut, now I also have another one called "Security Troubleshooting". I think this one opens up a website.

if they all open up a website.. its probably most likely a browser hijacker, malware, spyware, virus.. if you have backup virus utilities.. use them.. a spyware utility.. use it..

try downloading spybot search and destroy(free) and do a scan.. see if that resolved the pc-cilling issue.. if not, u can try uninstalling and reinstalling pc-cillin.. or u can try other antivirus programs like avg, avast, kaspersky, which are free.. or panda, bitdefender, aluria, which are not free..

to top it off, you might want a registry cleaner.. most of them are not free.. only a couple few.. i use winaso registry optimizer and defrager .. works great.. it'll clean up your registry of invalid paths and what not
