Ok, i have recently installed some new memory into my parents home pc, i installed 2 x Crucial 512mb ddr400 and 2 x Corsair Value Select ddr400, into a Gigabyte GA 7N400 motherboard. On startup it only registers as 1gb and in system it does the same thing. Can anyone help me?

can you give me what type of motherboard it has or what computer your talking about?
the board may only support 1 gb, or you may have to change settings, go into your bios at startup and see if you can change it to accept more

Maybe reset the bios? Oh, and make sure it's running in duel channel(if the mobo supports it) Maybe one of the sticks isn't working correctly?

it is running in dual channel allready, and the board supports up to 3gb. So it shouldn't be a problem. If it was a faulty module then one of the 512mb's would show. I'll tinker with the bios now though. thanks for the reply's.

No, I was checking to see if the RAM module is bad. Of course your old RAM's fine :P Try resetting the mobo as I suggested. I'm wondering if you're still stuck on the original amount of RAM. Some systems(older ones, usally around 95 :P) require you manually save the new RAM amounts. Still, worth a shot...

One thing I always do in your case... just put the new sticks of RAM in your system and take out the old ones and see if your system detects the new sticks. that way you should be able to tell if it's the memory slots, the memory, or just the system's setup...
