i spilled water on my comp while the computer was lieing side way. DO not ask why or how i spilled water on my comp, but i need some help. is there any way or figuring which part of the computer is broken by the computer? with out buying every computer parts to try it on?
my dad currently out of town said i should try to replace the power supply because the computer does not turn on. Is it better to buy a new computer or just upgrade the parts that is broken?

It is emachine T2825 512mb ram and 160 Gb yata yata,
lots reply please

was the computer on when it spilled? If it was off and unplugged then if you let the water dry completly, it should be fine.

It depends on the computer, but most i've seen the power supply trips in when something shorts out. I was once recently installing fan into one of my computers while it was on and dropped the fan extension wire onto the case and it sparked, popped, and the computer propmtly went off. After trying to hit the button it would not turn on. I let it sit for about 20-30 minutes, come back, hit the power button and it came right on.

Yeah, as long as there's no power going though it, a computer can be pretty safe while wet. I heard of people dropping PDA's in a toliet and using it later(hopfully it was clean water ;P) The trick is to remove the power source ASAP and let it TOTALLY dry. Don't be afraid to not use the machine for a few days, or weeks. It's much better to wait as long as you can before trying again.

if it was a lot of water, it will probly corrode eventually. I have worked on a lot of computers since huricane katrina ( i live 20 miles from New Orleans) and that's the problem with most of them. got an inch or 2 of water, no vitals got wet, just the mobo, and they corrode. Sounds like bad luck bro.

well the thing is its been 4 month ... -_- i first liked the idea of having no computer which brought more extra time and off from PO0rn. But now i need my computer more than ever, i can live without games but can't with 6month old musics in my ipod,

My computer was On while i spilled water on it, and i just want to know how to figure which part of the computer is dysfunctioning.

ANother question, all of my pictures from last year are in my hard drive, if i do customize or buy another computer can i apply the same hard drive with everything in installed to my new computer?

you could drop the hard drive into a new machine and try to use it, but it would prolly not work well if you have xp or 2k on it. in fact, if you had 98 on it, you would be better off in that regard.

instead, i would suggest that you install xp on another hard drive, drop in the one with the pictures as a second drive, and pull the pics off like that. i just hope you have not put them in one of xp's secure directories. . . that makes things a bit more difficult

Thats what i used to think, but its very easy to do, and even tells you on the microsoft website how ot do it

doyou get any response from the PC when you press the power button? Make sure it is plugged in and the power switch is on (in the back)
