Opening Word Pad/Note Pad Attachements

I occasionally get e-mails with either Msft Word Pad or Note Pad attachments. When I open them-they are always gibberish. I am running Windows XP with both MSFT Works and Word loaded on an HP A1110N with plenty of RAM and disc space.. According to the HP website-my computer should be able to open these attachments in readible text. Any ideas??? Thanks, Dave.

words only-this one happens to be a check authorization form. I have never gotten either a word pad or note pad attachment with a picture-not sure if either of these support photos.

That's what the HP website told me-that my computer's version of Word or Works would open the attachment. I sent the attachement to "My Documents". I then tried to send it to Word and Works-Works says the format is not supported. Word opens it as the same gibberish under a Windows format. It also says it can open it under MS-DOS or another format. I tried both (other format was USASCII)-same thing.
You know-I love computers and what they can do-but this kind of stuff makes me crazy. I just don't use mine enough to really get good at it.

It just says it's a PDF file-doesn't indicate whether text or doc. And many of the symbols shown are zeros-not squares as I said ealier. My Wife is Chinese and I am used to her sending me things which my computer shows as little squares since it cannot read the Mandarin characters-I must have been looking at one of those right before I posted my thread.

yes-I think so. Usually I can open PDF files, but once either Word Pad or Note Pad gets involved-I'm cooked!!!! I am not even sure why anyone uses those programs-seems like it is for forms and such (rather than letters) but I'm not sure

John-thanks again for the help!! I already had Acrobat 6.0 on my system. I added it to the "open with" list in the "My Documents" program and it opened the form just fine-already printed it out. I can stop pulling my hair out. You Da Man!!! ;-))) Take Care, Dave.
