operating server for server

now... if i wanted to build up a network... and wanted to start with the server... which operating system should i use for my server?

what OS are you do you know? winNT winXP redhat? and whats the reason for setting up this network?

Why not use linux? Its free isn't it?

I would suggest using Linux. There are many different forms of linux out there, and many are made for specific server applications. (Web server, program server, cache server, storage server, etc.) You can go to www.linux.org and there will be a database of different linux distributions and links you can use to download the program.
