Operating System and New Motherboard

My motherboard blew, and I would like to replace it with a compatiable board. My question is: will I need to re-install my OS?? What is involved for this procedure? I do not have any system discs because I bought this computer used...I don't want to invest much in this old machine, but not ready to upgrade yet, either.
 
Unless you find the exact same motherboard then you will need to do a repair install of windows, but a fresh install would be preferred.
