Operating system missing

hey,I just installed some case fans in my of, and I unplugged my hd to fit the front one, when I plugged it back in it booted fine. The bios screen came up, then after that a black screen came up saying "missing operating system" I checked the connections and the bios recognised the hd. It didn't get bumped or anything so what's up with it? Please be specific with your answer. :) -cheers
 
Okay, ive just put the installation cd back in, selected boot from cd and now im on it as if nothin as happened.
If i change it too boot from HD will my problem be solved?
 
Sounds like you lost the boot loader. If it's Windows XP you could either:
a) with a 98 boot disk run "fdisk /mbr"
b) if you have the xp cd, reboot go into recovery mode and "fixmbr"
