Im pretty rubbish at computers and a lil stuck.
I bought a second hand acer aspire laptop off a mate and it worked fine for about 6 months. Now when i try and turn it on it shows the acer loading screen but then goes to a black screen with white text. It says:

Yukon PXE v6.1.2 (beta) (20070307)
(C)Copyright 2003-2007 Marvell(R). All rights reserved.
Pre-boot eXecution Environment (PXE) v2.1
(C)Copyright 1997-200 Intel Corporation.
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.
Operating System not found

does anyone know what the problem is?
Iv been lookin around the internet and seen some stuff about a faulty hard drive but im not to sure what this means. I have also lost the Windows Vista installation disc thingy :/

Hello Dastan

Welcome to Computer Forum

What's happening here is that the hard drive has issues, if not dead already, and no boot files can be found so therefore the machine is trying to boot from a network source.

To my mind you will have to procure a new hard drive and reinstall windows.

No.

If you buy a new hard drive then you can reinstall Windows providing you got the Operating system disk from your friend.

You're welcome.

Depending on the operating system that was on the machine you may have to go to Acer for certain drivers.

Please let us know if you do encounter any difficulties.

Try to go into BIOS and see if your hard disk drive is showed there. If it is,let us know before you buy a new one...
