Operating System... That'd be nice

Hi, I've recently built a new computer with an old hard drive I had from another computer I owned. I'm can't for that life of my figure out how install a new OS though.

I first started by just plugging in the old hard drive complete with old files and drivers into the new computer, and after some blue error screens and some reading I found out that wouldn't work. I tried to re-format with a windows XP disc but still got all the old errors. I ended up hooking the HDD as a slave to another computer and formatting like that. I've since hooked the formatted HDD back into my new computer with no new luck at installing XP. The drive should be clean, I've set the BIOS boot setup to boot from my CD drive but continue to get a NTLDR error. I've done some reading and tried a couple of suggested fixes but nothing has worked. Is there anything major i'm missing?

try booting the CD from your working computer to see if the CD is good.

NTLDR error sounds like the harddrive is being booted not the CD. check to see if the CD drive is connected right and bois can see it.
