Is this a good chip/mobo combo?

Thanks for your help.

Well, its a decent setup if you're not planning on gaming very often or with later more demanding games. Maybe look into an nForce motherboard and a better card if you want to game. Other than that it will do fine. It seems a tad expensive. Where are you getting parts from and if you could post the prices that'd be great.

Thanks for your reply, I'm not a gamer. I will be working mostly with Audio Programs. The parts/prices is from Monarch Computers, it's hard to cut and paste the full sheet from their site...

Any recommendation for a cheaper online customization pc company?

Well cheaper would be to buy the components and build it yourself, but if you don't know a whole lot about that, then don't try it. ;)

And you cannot re-use XP, so you will need to buy a new copy if you want to stay legal.

Business functions & audio editing (the majority).

I'm not going to re-use Windows, I have the real deal in the box.

Also, thanks for listing those parts...I just don't have time/knowledge to put it together.

Well in that case I can definitively say you're gonna get ripped off BIG time! (but as long as you know). The key points:
1. My box has a dualcore processor, your's is single core
2. My box is cheaper.
The rest is arguable but at the very least, my parts are on par with yours (with the exception of the videocard, yours is superior however you'd never notice since you're not a gamer)

I don't think that there is any way that you will not get ripped off when buying a pre-built rig. Especially on customised ones. The cheapest way to get it is to build it yourself. But I realise that that option is not always possible. Another option would be to buy the components online and find some neighborhood kid who knows what he is doing (or one of us...where do you live) and you would probably still save money. But I will look around for a cheaper pre-built rig

Well obviously but there are varying degrees of what most people would consider acceptable amounts to pay for service and warranty. The fact of the matter is that it costs prolly $700CAD to build a machine like what is specied in post1 (roughly, the machine i built had a Radeon9550 but had 2x250GB 16MB drives)

In my experience with computers (which isn't too much) I have found that warranty and service don't do jackshit if you touch anything inside. Which is unavoidable for me to do. Now for other people, a warranty is a nice thing, because they don't touch the inside. But it is still overpriced, in my opinion. And with a self-built, you have a warranty on each individual component, so opening the case doesn't void anything.

The more you fix computers and stuff for people the more you realize how random shit just plain happens and for people who dont have the time or knowhow to mess with it themselves, that might make the difference (in this PARTICULAR case, it's too expensive IMO too)

Whoa! We agree for once! :P anyway, I am still looking for a customised computer that is not rediculously overpriced, but I have a feeling that there is not one to be found. Dell offers some great deals, but usually on pre-configured machines.
