Opinion on the new Raptor HD!!

Still reigns as the king of hard drives with nothing but upgrades (8 up to16 mb cache especially), but is too pricey for me. It's double $ per GB than others, and I can't throw around cash.

i bought it and didn't like it for a couple reasons

it easier and cheaper just to set up raid 0
it wasn't that much faster than normal
it doesnt have as much capacity as i need

so i just have a couple of cheap seagtes on raid 0 and am happy

It's actually a lot faster then normal... avg seek time of your seagate is around 10ms and the raptor is 4.6ms...huge difference

thats pretty fast but to me thats way too much.. for that price you can get a 400gb or even 2 250gb HD's which is a total of 500gb's.
also the one you have is the best raptor drive becuase its 16mb. the older ones arent worth it. as they didnt offer a significant perfomance increase than the 7200rpm Hd's.(see HD 101)

maybe you didn't read it right....there on a raid 0 giving them equal if not faster speed

lol i know they are in raid 0...but raiding 2 generic seagates still wont outperform the raptor...there is no way you would achieve 4.6 seek

#1 he said theyre not alot faster
#2 raid does increase performance alot. similar technology as dual channel memory, only with hard drives. not quite as efficient, but still does increase performance a bunch.
