Opinion on these two proccessors

Sorry about the first thread,,got my threads mixed up

I need a processor for mostly downloading of files from one HD to the other,internet surfing and music/video downloads.

Which one of these would be a better performer?
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ 3.2GHz $162

or

Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Conroe 2.33GHz $169
With the rest of the stuff I want to build,,this is the most I can spend on the proccessor.

they're both great. But i think the intel would be better. And ipersonaly think ur overdoing it if ur not going to game....but thats just me.

at all stock speeds the 6400+ is better

I only get a new computer about every 7years.My now AMD xp 1800 is just now getting about obsolete but still usuable..At the time it was the bomb.

So I am hoping that this set up will carry me another 7 years
