opinions on new card upgrade

hello. im getting ready to replace my gtx 260 core 216 with something newer. my budget is between $200-$300 TOPS INCLUDING shipping. it will be running on a 25" 1080p monitor and needs to have HDMI out. if we could hit in the middle that would be perfect. i want something that will outperform my current card marginaly. when i play metro 2033 with my current card on max, at 1080p i only get average of 30 fps, and would like to improve that to maybe 45+ fps. any other info about my specs can be found in my sig. and if there is anything else you see that i should change, let me know. is my rig at least half way descent? thanks for all the replies.

im leaning toward the 470 but 2 questions. would it be better to wait until ati comes out with their 6 series and hope for price drops on the 470? 2nd question is would it be smarter to get a 460 now, and later get a 2nd with a am3 sli board, or go with the 470 now and stick with single gpu with current board? which would be smarter money/performance wise?

if you plan on upgrading your motherboard soon, i think it would be worth it to get a 460 and sli later rather than get a 470. however, i would suggest waiting until the amd 6xxx cards come out and see how they perform per $ when compared to nvidia cards and decide then. who knows, they might release a great card at a great price that the 460 just can't compete with alone (not in sli).

im only upgrading my board and getting 2 460s if it is worth the performance increase and money over the single 470, plus it would need to have new sata 6 and usb 3 if im going to spend money on a new board. keep in mind, if i go with the 470, i only need to get a 470. if i go with 2 x 460s, i need to get them plus a new board, so what im wondering now, is all the extra money in a sli setup worth the perfarmance ncrease over the 470?

Upgrading an old graphics card can have one of the most impressive effects in improving your computer. This is particularly true when it comes to games; upgrading to even a modest recent graphics card will open the doors to the latest and best games and allow you to play at higher resolutions and with more of the special effects switched on.
