i dont trust the opteron for gaming.. id bet itd be hard to find a 939pin mobo for that! either way i got the 3800 as you see, and i o/ced it to 2.4ghz... i didnt even need to turn the vcore up! i get great temps and im satisfied with this product... id get it if i were you. it actually does just a TINY bit worse than the 4800+ (because of smaller cache) in sisoft sandra benchmarks.
again, i wouldnt bother with opteronnnn...
i guess it comes down to the architecture of the opteron chip, and which one is more o/cable! get a good air cooler to extend life either way.
the only real difference between the two chips is that one is athlon 64, and one is opteron, putting aside the default clocks (they can be changed quite easily)
personally i already have a the x2 3800+... but that looks like a decent alternative....
also, find a compatible motherboard supporting opteron dual core
