Optimizing the number of processes...

Is there a way to get rid of unwanted processes besides randomly shutting things down in the task manager (I'm using XP, by the way)? At idle, I'm using around 350MB of memory (according to the task manager). That just seems way too high...
 
Here:

Download and install CCLeaner

  • Go to CCleaner
  • Do a registry scan
  • Fix the problems
  • Go to cleaner
  • Analize
  • Clean by clicking on Run Cleaner
