I know this is a really old topic, but i'm currently playing around with my old pr, an optiplex GX1 its runnin a p3 with 64mg of ram, pretty sure its a pc100 card. Just want to know if i shouls stay with the pc100 or will a pc133 work? Also if it will be ok to use a 256 card with the 64? I've heard that these comps support up to 384 or something. Any help would be great.

I've given you your own thread.

The system supports 768MB ECC, or 384MB nonECC. It uses PC100 SDRAM so getting 133 wont do anything.

Thanks for the reply and thread. So I'm guessing i'll just buy a pc100 card at about 256mg, just a cheap one off ebay. I only plan on using this comp in my car running off a touchscreen so really only need enough ram to run music program comfortably. Should i just add the new card to the existing 64, or replace it?

Hey,
Never hurts to just add to your existing memory, i own the same computer it has 3 slots (256,128,128) is what my contains, it runs most programs well with this setup. I only added the 256mb chip and i purchased it off ebay for $25, just to give you an idea. Best of Luck!

According to the Dell documentation, you can only put 128MB sticks in unless you buy ECC then you can use 256MB. 256MB nonECC may work but I don't know for sure.
