Ok, I finally decided to get a laptop over a desktop . I will be getting the new dell xps M1530. Before I press checkout, I would like it if anyone could answer some of my questions.

Here the specs:

PROCESSOR :Intel Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7500 (2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB, 4MB Cache)

OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition

SYSTEM COLOUR Either black or white.

LCD AND CAMERA Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch LCD & 2.0 MP Camera (1280x800)

MEMORY 3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)

HARD DRIVE 120GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive

GRAPHICS CARD 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8600M GT

OPTICAL DRIVE 8X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability

WIRELESS CARD Intel® 3945 802.11a/g Mini-card

BATTERY OPTIONS 6-cell Primary Battery and 9 -cell additional Lithium Ion Battery

SOUND OPTIONS High Definition Audio 2.0

Ok, The only thing that I am not liking is the screen resolution. However, thats all they offer for now. I will be using this laptop for school (lots programming, modeling, animation) and alot of gaming. Will the 1200x800 screen resolution effect me that much?

Dell also has other options for the wireless card and sound card. They offer a Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card for a additional $40 or a Dell Wireless 1490 802.11a/g Mini Card for a addtional $20. For the sound card they offer a Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition for a additional $20. Should I just stick with the wireless card and sound card that I have?

stick with the intel chipset for the wireless card, those are typically better. In addition the sound upgrade isn't actually a hardware upgrade so i'm not sure why it would be worth the extra money. Have you looked at the vistro series notebooks. I was pricing one out with nearly the same specs and it was a lot cheaper than the XPS series. ALthough it didn't look nearly as cool.

I really like the look of the XPS, but I have never looked into the vistro notebook (I will check them out). I think you are right about the sound card being a more software update. Any comments on the screen? Going to order soon!

like he said, really go with intel chipset.

and i would take one 9 cell battery saves you a lot of money and isn't wort the extra money

i can't imagine how this would be possible i've never seen 1.5gb pieces of ram, it's either 3 dimms of 1gb each or it isn't 3gb.
 
One thing which has always puzzled me is how do you get dual channel 1.5GB, dual channel 3gb etc, I thought every DIMM had to be exactly the same? The Vostro is a good laptop, I own one, very dependable.
