Ordering Tomorrow - Last Minute Changes To New Build

A few comments:
First off, even though GPUreview shows that you might be able to unlock some pipes on the 8800GTS, unless someone has done it, it usually can't be done. Even if a few have, it is most likely on a certain revision of a certain company.

I would also suggest waiting until summer to get a DX10 card. Until summer, you might want to look into the X1950GT or the X1950Pro.

if your considering upgrading in the summer anyway, and you believe you will happily have the money then i say stick with the 7900GTO.
Thats an issue though, even though i am in a relatively nice job it did take quite a while to bank up this cash to be able to buy it all. I've always planned to upgrade in the summer, but having the money at the time is a dodgy topic.

Lets be honest here, is having a GTO instead of an 8000GTS really going to hamper your gaming experience based on what you had previsouly. At the end of the day your going to see a huge performance increase no matter which you choose.
Very true, I'm currently running on an FX5200, and boy is it a POS.... But then again, if you're buying a new system you should always be comparing between the latest and greatest, if we compared with the current hardware ive got, i would most liekly be buying a 7600GS or something like that, by todays standards a fairly low card, but compared to the 5200, its 100x better. So basically, even though anything is going to be better than what i've got, i stil want to have the best i can get for my budget.

Go for the 7900GTO for now and then so long as you believe you will have the funds for it upgrade to a DX10 capable card in the summer. By that time there will be more competition on the market for cards and as such you will be more likely to get a cracking card for a decent price.
Of course, i can still take that method even if i do buy the 8800 now, i could still sell that in the summer and get perhaps one of the newer 8900's (depending on how they do).... again this is funds permitting, which might not get very far.

I simply dont see the point in currently going for a next gen card other than for bragging rights.
You doubt the size of my ego too much, i live for bragging rights... :P

I will bear that in mind, 99% chance that you cant unlock them, fair enough, still a very good card none the less, i will be overclocking anyway so...

Are you going to be doing SLI? I'd rather have 1 8800 than 2 7900s

If not doing SLI, the P5B Dlx is supposed to be a great motherboard as well as the DS3.

So after a bit more thinking and a slight adjustment to the budget, I've got a revised part list...Sub-Total = £657.92
VAT = £115.17
TOTAL = £773.09

-------------------------

GREEN is new or updated parts. Graphics obviously, and hard drive because the other one went out of stock and this was on a special offer, lol...

I'm still contemplating about the RAM, not sure what to do, corsair has been recommended more than once, so its beginning to appear more of a favorite... not sure

*EDIT* - in reply to the post above, yes, i probably wil be doing SLi later on, maybe with a second 8800GTS, maybe i will sell the 8800 and go for something different, but that will be at a later date

It's DX10 so it's gonna last longer then the 7900

I think it would be better than the 7900.. but about it beeing DX10.. i'm not so sure if it will perform so well on actual DX10 games.. I mean, when the DX10 games are released, the card will already be half a year old. Mu gues would be it handles DX10 games on medium settings. ofcourse, this is just how i think about it.. could be wrong ofcourse

It has 4 slots so if two are taken up with 1 gig you could still put in another 2 gigs to have 3 total, and by the time 4 gigs becomes standard we probaly won't even be using ddr2 anymore.

sorry guys, kinda forgot about this thread, i ordered on saturday 17th Feb. not got too much time to remake a post liek earlier, but i have this screenshot for you to have a look at. Enjoy

Dave, it would be a pretty dumb decision to SLI two 7900's, even getting one is a pretty poor choice. You can pick up an 8800GTS 320MB for only about $100 more then a 7900GTO, and it will even outperform two of them in SLI. If you bought a G80 now, you wont even have to upgrade in the summer.

No I didnt, lol. I just read the first page and posted :P

Hope the new PC works well for you.

Now that I look at the build, looks great!

Only recommendation I have is that you will probably want 2GB pretty soon.

Thanks geoff, and yes, i had a bidget of around £800 and the only way i could get it to fit was to skimp on the RAM (after i cut back on almost everything else, lol). After listening to the comments of the guys on here saying that dual channel 512's was a bad idea, i got a 1Gb stick, so it's easier to upgrade with later on.

I think the plan will be to upgrade up to 2gb or more in the summer, it all depends on the money situation.

Well, eBuyer has confirmed ship dates of Friday 23rd February. Which leaves me the weekend to build and sort out any problems. It's a shame i have to work both days at the weekend, but I'm sure I'll fit it in somewhere.

Thanks for the posts. Will keep you all updated.

Cheers, dragon2309

You have to work days and week-ends to pay for it? When are you going to get to build it?

We do want pictures too :P
Nice build!
