OS advice

I recently upgraded my computer to the following specs: Intel core I7 920 2.67Ghz, 2x2Gb G.skill RAM, Asus p6x58d-e motherboard, saphire vapor x radeon hd 5770, and 250gb 7200rpm harddrive. I used my old windows xp cd and loaded the new OS onto the new drive with the original product key. I was able to download windows updates and do all the drivers with no problem, but I also got the "windows is not genuine" probably because my components changed so much. My question is whether I should get the windows 7 upgrade. Currently the windows xp is 32bit so it only registers 3gb of my 4 gb RAM and my GPU is capable of directx 11 while xp 32 can only do 9.0. Should I upgrade to windows 7 or is it not worth it? Also if I choose to upgrade can I just buy the upgrade package or am I going to have an issue because of this windows genuine crap?

If you reinstall windows you shouldn't have a problem. To answer you're question if XP's not registered you won't beable to use the upgrade version. It requires a registered version of Windows to be installed. Just buy an OEM copy on Newegg. It's the same price as the upgrade.

I wouldn't deal with upgrades, just buy the retail version. Or the System builders version. The system builders version will be mated for that machine only tho.

I'd upgrade. I like Windows 7 so much more than Windows XP. Plus it is a more secure platform, with free virus/spyware/malware protection that is not supported in XP.
