OS error

ok, so i took 2 aptivas and made them into one. when i try to run it, the first thing that comes up is a menu of running windows, running it in safe mode, running BOOT..something, running safe mode with network setup, running command prompt, and running that in safe mode. under the menu it says, the computer didnt successfully load windows during the last attempt. [lease run in safe mode to minimize drive...something. so i run it in safe mode. usually it just stays on the loading screen, until i press esc, or ctrl-alt-dlt and those both take me back to that menu. sometimes, after a while, it says there is a protection error, and i have to restart the system. can someone help my situation?

You will need a full copy of 98 to see that corrected. The old systems there had preinstalled copies of 98 now disfunctional. Availability of drivers will be the main concern after a clean install of 98. I doubt the recovery disks for the two if onhand would help you much after splicing the two together. Your other opinion if forced to buy a new copy of Windows would be to upgrade that to 2000 or XP if there's enough memory(512mb advised) for one of the newer versions.
