OS install issue

I have a Toshiba Satelite L300, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD which is 2 years old.
Over the last couple of months i've kept getting blue screens pop up and the system has been getting slower.
I tried to reinstall vista and it says HDD not detected and i get the same message when i try and install XP Pro, yet it still boots from the HDD.

The blue screen is only visible for a couple of seconds, and i'm sure it said 'Physical Memory Dump'.
I've tested the Memory Modules using windows diognostic tool and they're fine.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thank You.

Go into the bios and see if you can change the sata controller setting from ahci to IDE or compatibility. If you can't, then you'll have to slipstream the sata controller driver into a new install cd.

After i posted this thread i came across the 'change sata controller' whilst researching the problem, of which i did.
Vista still wont install but i did manage to install xp, but only with the classic 2000 theme.
I'm currently downloading vista home premium with the hope of using my legitimate product key on the bottom of the laptop, i have high hopes for success as the hard drive has been formatted during the xp install so now there should be nothing in the way of a clean vista install.

Downloading it from where? Please don't tell me its from a torrent? You have an OEM license from Toshiba to run Vista. You would need an OEM install disk to use the oem license on the bottom of the laptop.
