i am reinstalling windows 98 on my computer on a new hard drive. (My old harddrive wus having a problem.) I am usinbg the install disk is from my dad's computer (the install disc files were on his hard drive)

i have the product key for my Wndows98 i had on my computer and i know for a fact that my key is valid. But I am using a disc made from my dad's computer. But everything worked....until it asked for my product key. I entered my key TONS of times and making sure it was correct, and it didn't work. Then I used my dad's key. And it worked! But i'm not supposed to use his key on two computers. My dad said that his disc from his computer had a digital signature or something like that so only his key would work. Is there a way around this???

Why dont you have an install CD from your computer?

And is it possible that your dad has Windows 98 SE and you have Windows 98, or vice versa?

it does work... but if i get on the internet or try Windows Updates, wont i get caught?

I have had problems almost the same with the whole serial key thing and all, and I have never heard of anybody getting caught. The security on Windows 98 is minimal, at most.
