OS installation driver problems

Ok I'm trying to install windows 98 (yes thats right) on my laptop but the drivers for my cdrom are incompatible, I'm a little bit confused by this as I don't understand how it would recognize the disk and prompt me to start setup without the drivers working right. After selecting boot from cdrom and then telling it to start setup it goes through a page worth of command lines that end in 'Device driver not found: 'OEMCD001' No valid CDROM device drivers selected The windows 98 Setup files were not found'
Then it brings me back to command prompt. Please keep it in fairly simple terms no need to confuse me :)

You should have 2 options when you boot to the 98 install cd.

1. setup with cdrom support
2. setup without cdrom support

Choose with cdrom support.

I actually get 3 the first one is start windows 98 setup, and even selecting 'start with cdrom support' I still get the same message.

Windows 98 must be started with a boot floppy disk, i don't think that they made a setup disk from Cd..

They all had the ability to boot to the CD. It just depended if the PC had the ability to boot to the CD drive or not.
