OS installing

Hi everyone,

I'm planning on buying an Wind 7 for my computer. I'm pretty sure my HDD is corrupt and I don't have a recovery or the original Win 7 CD. I'm wondering though if I want to format my HDD and install the OS, and I find that the HDD is completely screwed, can I reload the OS again to a new HDD?

Any help is much appreciated,
Andy

Either open the side of the case and look or you can tell just by looking in device manager under disk drives. Should tell you the model number ST would be seagate, WD is western digital and so on. Just give us the model number.

You will need to use seatools to diagnose the drive. You can use either windows or the dos version. You can create a seatools for dos bootable cd and then boot to it, run the long extended test.

OK, just finished the long test. It said I got a bad sector, but the disk is non-seagate device. So I didn't get any fix tool or anything pop-up.

The Seagate utility doesn't fix errors unless it's a Seagate drive. Yeah Samsung is owned by Seagate, but the Samsung utility is still the only one that repairs the errors. The one on Hiren's works :good:

oops sorry, click on one of the icons next to where it says iso in the left column for the mirror you want.

ok, so I ended up using the Hiren's Boot CD. Which option do I use though? There's so many options that I'm not even sure have to do with my system.

Thanks a mil. I got into Hutil, but the disclaimer scared me away though. I can't make a recovery disc. I get different errors and stuff, this is why I think my HDD is bad. What should I do to back up my stuff?
