OS/System Restore FATAL problem!!!

My computer really ****'d up yesterday... I was about to go to sleep and closed
my Opera when my computer froze. I was too tired to wait for it so I shut my
computer down and went to sleep cos I was really tired..

When I launched my computer this morning all seemed to work really fine, actually;
My computer loaded like 2-3 times faster than it usually is!
I got the usual "login pop ups"(dunno how to call them). Then BAM! my computer
suddenly restarted!
I logged in a dozen times hoping that it'll somehow fix itself but no avail..

Sometimes it just restarts and sometimes it gives me the Blue Screen of Death...

I thought there was nothing for me to do but to do a system restore. Luckily my
last checkpoint is from yesterday morning! ^^

..So I go about selecting yesterday and clicking next. then I get to a confirmation
page that says that after I click "next" it's gonna do its thing.. so I click next.
.
..
....
................
I click next again.. again... again... AGAIN!!! dammit!! nothing happens!!!!!1

I tryed to restart my computer a dozen more times.. trying to access System Restore
from all avalible Safe Modes (Normal, Networking and Command Prompt).
The result is the same in all of them..

I'm writing now from safe mode with networking like a poor man...

please help!!!

p.s. sorry for DP from other section, but I really need an answer asap. thx.

What are you using? XP, Vista? I think you should check your hard drive out. Sounds like the problem is there. Whenever it is trying to access large amounts of data, the connection just terminates. Does that sound like it? That still doesn't explain why safe mode works though. Maybe because it only loads the core files of the operating system.

You can try and run a scan of your hard drive by using SeaTools. You will have to have a computer that can load to the normal version of windows to burn a cd though. Maybe borrow a friends?

You will need to go here and fill in what it wants, then you will be able to download. instructions are included.

Thanks for the tool m8 xD
but why burn it? can't I run it here, in Safe Mode??

btw, I have Windows XP ^^

It might not work with just installing it from safe mode, if you even can. Just burn it to a disk, like from another computer if nessecary.

Well, you have to burn it because it has to be run from DOS (a small self sustaining operating system contained along with the drive scanner/fixer on the CD). You must have the CD to use the program (then when restarting, put the disk in and select boot sequence options or similar - normally F10 or F8 - and then select CD/DVD drive or whatever).

Try that, and it will tell you if you've got any problems. You should see if it's really a problem with Windows before spending hours reinstalling onto a possibly faulty disk.

Btw, I have heard of Vista doing this, but never XP? Wierd.

Lol, I think I fixed it!
I wend Run--->msconfig and unchecked all the boot on start programs, lol ^^

Windows seems to be working fine now, but when I put "too much pressure on it" i.e.
closing messenger while computer still loading or stuff like that it got stuck and I couldn't
click on anything, after a while mouse became stuck too!

Maybe it passed now cos now is the next morning and I put my downloads for the night
and computer seems to be just fine.. not sure tho....

I'll post when I run something more "heavy" like cs 1.6, lol xP

Cheers! ;)

All's fine now. Turned on some of the essential windows programs in msconfig
like sound and network connection.
explorer.exe still gets frozen when I overload it, but the capacity is quite high xD

Thanks for all the help ;)
