I have a window 7 OEM SP1 and i want to upgrade to window 8 ....

And my question is

i want to change my mother board and i know OEM version is only only usable on one computer so maybe i can use the upgrade key and put it on a new motherboard instead...

Or is there any other way of putting my w7 onto a new MB???
Cause motherboard alone costs 179 and i dont want to spend extra 100 on a new os as well.....

Errm i dont think u understood wat i wrote xD
My w7 in activated already lol

I mean if you switch out the motherboards and you get a "Windows not activated" message when you boot up again in Windows 7, you should still be able to upgrade to Windows 8.

If I'm not mistaken, it won't upgrade without it being activated.

However, Why do you want to upgrade to 8 when its basically windows 7 with a different GUI?

Probably because it's faster, uses less resources, boot times are blissfully short, and it's the latest Windows version :P

Yeah and Win8 Pro upgrade is selling for 50 euros right now... (Newegg has similar prices)

jshun123 does Windows 8 has something you really need and that Windows 7 doesn't have?

Anyway Windows 7 and Windows 8 are both good.If the money is your main problem then buy what is cheaper for you.

Yeah i really want to change my Motherboard without spending so much on OS since now my god dman PSU is failing as well (i think)

so o was wondering instead of wasting my w7, if i can use w8 upgrade opportunity to maybe transfer it to another motherboard....

so if u guys know a way to transfer w7 to another motherboard (legalized way ofc) like maybe contacting microsoft...????

win upgrade

You do not have to activate your copy of windows 7 to use it to install the windows 8 upgrade. I just did it myself and no problem. However why go to win 8? I see no advantage. I'm still trying to find where all the important features are hidden. I have yet to find My computer and my documents. Next, if your copy of windows 7 is 32 bit you will not be allowed to load the windows 8 by 64 bit version. you will be able to load a fresh version of win 8 but not a CLEAN version. By clean I mean a new HD or one cleaned by a multi-scan multi-digit overwrite. some Mal-ware and viruses can survive a simple reformat, only a write-over can guarantee a clean upgrade and that's not possible in windows 8..

Uh I was running Windows 7 32-bit before I upgraded to Windows 8 64-bit. Also, we went over the whole formatting thing already, it is possible.

And if you can't find Computer and Documents that's sad, you must not know what Windows Explorer is.

I transfered the os to another motherboard (gigabyte to asrock) through automated phone service was hassel free and no questions were asked.... Too bad had to RMA the asrock board as well.....
Maybe i wont be able to do that next time but this time i was lucky... Yay for windows!
Thanks so much for help once again =)
