Man oh man.....I love uneducated people who just spread ignorance....
First of all, OS X is not windows, so don't compare the two. 99% of the time anyone switches from Windows to OS X, Linux, or Unix they go back to windows because they never take the time to fully understand how the other OS works.
Having professionally worked with almost every platform out there (Unix, Linux, OS X, Windows, and Novell) I can honestly say that in my experience Macs and OS X have always ran better than the windows counter parts. I have fewer broken macs to deal with, and I have less problems with spyware and viruses that I have with Windows.
Almost all your basic problem with a mac can be fixed by snuffing out corrupted user preferences. If you have a problem with in OS X, create a new user account and see if the problem reproduces in that new user account. If it doesn't, it is a user level preference (.plist file) which can be simply deleted and you are back in business.
OS X x86 runs like crap compared to actually running OS X on a Mac, so you will be even more blown away.
Another huge misconception is that hardware specs are more expensive on a Mac, which again, is not true. I challenge anyone on this forum to make a PC mirrored to the specs of an entry Mac Pro desktop and do it for under $3,000. The people that scream that its over priced and can be built for half the cost are talking out their ass and have no idea what they are talking about in the first place.
The only thing you could maybe build spec for spec would be an iMac, and remember that those come with built in 20 and 24 " flat LED back lit flat screen monitors. So you'd have to include that in your build. I think maybe a PC could be built like an iMac for close to the same price with all the features and benefits it gets out of the box, however a Mac Pro, there is no way. I have tried. The cheapest I could find the Xeon processors in the entry mac pro were $750 each off of newegg, so thats $1500 in processors right there.
