Out of these two?

Hi,

I'm looking for an LGA775 MOBO for my new build...

I'v e found these two and I need your help on deciding :)

They're the two I can't decide between, I found this review that shows tha the Asus one is better than the Gigabyte one.

Also, With either of the boards, can I plug a SATA II drive in without having to put the drivers on, ie. It'd recognize it instantly?

One more question, :P Is there any real point in buying an SLI motherboard?

Thanks :D

It's probably a matter of wheter or not your planning to make your system SLi in the future. If so, then go the Asus board, If not, go the Gigabyte board. Both are very good boards, and fantastic overclockers. IMO I would go with the Gigabyte.

I don't know if I'd be using SLI in the future though, or just buy a new GPU, probably be easier to just buy one.

Yup, well, sort of, went a little over, but only because I've added some stuf:

Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 - £69.91

Core 2 Duo E6300 - £111

GeForce XFX 7900GS - £109.28

Corsair (CM2X1024-5400C4) 1024MB - £50.18

Seagate 80GB Barracuda SATAII - £29.94

Extra Value 120mm Blue LED Fan - £2.48

Scythe Kama Bay Black - £22.51

Total: £395

What is the Scythe Kama Bay Black ?

i believe its a cooler for 5.25" drive bay

Correct :P

It fits in 3 5 1/2 bays and has a 120mm fan that sucks air into the case.

I have a black case, so obviously it'll look better.

the black one looks better -Mr see threw case

Yup, thats the one I'm getting :D :P

The asus one without doubt

Howcome?

Why, some reasons?

Also, would either of those boards just find the SATA drive without having to put drivers on with a floppy? Thanks :)

The gigabyte should be good to install windows without needing a floppy for drivers. I've done it on an ICH6, the gigabyte board has an ICH8. You might have to adjust some BIOS settings for it to work though, there's a few that aren't documented well/at all that are related to the SATA controller.

I don't know if the Asus board needs SATA drivers or not, I'd hope that by now they wouldn't need them anymore but you never know.

I don't think anyone needs an SLI/crossfire board, IMO it's just silly and a waste of money.

Either supports C2Q, they just don't list it on novatech properly.

Ahh good, I was really hoping that I wouldn't need to put the floppy drive in. What kind of settings do you think I'd need to fiddle with?

Yeah, I see what you mean, You might aswell just buy one really good card.

Oh right, Excellent!

Thanks a lot Cromewell for clearing it all up :D

SATA Port0-3 Native Mode (they say it enables/disables it, that's all), which I think needs to be enabled, I don't remember though. Just switch it if it doesn't work. Also if you want to use the SATA features like NCQ you need to run the controller in AHCI mode, I would use IDE mode though, ACHI is hit and miss on XP.
