Outlook 2007 not syncing with my gmail account?

I've been out of the loop a while and tried to connect my gmail account with my Outlook 2007 and I'm not having much luck.

I followed this web site http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/internet/gmail/add-your-gmail-account-to-outlook-2007/ to the "T" but no dice. When I click on "Test Account Settings" it prompts me to type in my user name and password. I have done this over and over again. I know my user name and password that I'm typing in works because I've logged into gmail many times already.

I have enabled POP in my gmail account.

What am I doing wrong?

My OS is Windows 7 Home Edition.

Sorry, I have now upgraded to Outlook 2010 and I'm still getting the same problem.
Every time I "test" the account It prompts me for my user name and password. I know the username and password are correct that I'm typing in because I can logon just fine on gmail.com.

What am I missing?

Looks like your email server settings are wrong. Try this.

If your using IMAP then do you have the server settings set for IMAP and not POP?

I had it set for both IMAP & POP. After reading your statement I disabled POP and left IMAP enabled and it still prompts me for my password.

The followed the link you sent me to the "T".

Any other ideas?
