Overclock it ? or leave it ?

hello to ALL...
I just ordered AMD64 3700+ San Diego this weekend so it should come this week...i will be building my first system, and I will be jumping from AthlonXP 2700+ to 3700+ ...I cannot decide if I should overclock the Processor or not...I read about this processor and I heard that it overclocks very well...i'm not too much of an overclocker but I know little somthing about it...If I will overclock I will only till it hits 2.4-2.5Ghz Operating Frequency b/c I don't want to do anything with my memory speeds...I will be runnin this setup -

I couldn't get any better memory because I already have the exact same one in my current system so I want then to run in Dual(And I was on very tight budget)...

I'm planning on to keep this CPU as long as I can, and I heard that overclocking shortens the processors lifetime...
So I'm facing a big decision whether to Oveclock or just leave it...
I'm already making big jump from non-overclocked 2700+ (I think) So is it even worth it ???

PS:My Computer will be mainly for Gaming...

Thoughts ???
 
well...you're choice, i would leave it as it is seeing its a very nice processor, and overclock it later when it is needed.
 
Well one big question is how are you going to cool it, if you're even thinking of overclocking, you need something much better than a stock fan, actually I would suggest getting a better heatsink regardless of your oc decision. I have personally never overclocked my comp, but that is because I'm running a P4 that gets quite toasty without it. A small overclock isn't as hard as a larger one on your processor, obviously, but the small change is much less noticeable, again obviously, so you would probably not even be able to tell the difference. If this is your first build I would suggest holding off on the overclocking temporarily to get any other bugs worked out. Then if you want to oc after everything's stable, give it a shot, but you might end up not really caring to do so.
 
if you want to keep the processor a long time dont overclock it. but if you want more performance overclock it.

I'd say leave it as it is now, but in the future when your cpu isnt enough, then i'd overclock it.
 
umm, id say leave it since u only know a little about o/cing. once you learn alot id say buy a new heatsink and o/c it a bit... say 200mhz? i got a good 400mhz o/c, but i bought a nice $75 heatsink/fan/fan controller combo... with vibration dampeners...
also, slap some heat spreaders on that ram if you plan on ocing. it will lessen the chance of it overheating and damaging it... and increase your surface area ultimately.
