overclock my video card

How far depends on your individual card. How? well there are a few tools but I'd recommend Coolbits (google it) It is a mere registry tweak that puts extra settings at your finger tips in the Nvidia control panel. There are a few ways to find the Nvidia control panel but I'll just mention 1.

right click on your desktop then click properties. Then click "settings" then "advanced", You will then see a tab for your graphics card (click it). If you installed coolbits you will see an entry for you graphics cards speed settings. You should concentrate on 3D as running your card hot for the 2D desktop is pointless. There's also settings that will let your card determine which speeds it thinks is best (which is usually the safest method).

I will mention that overclocking is useless in my "opinion" The only real difference most see is in benchmarks. The real world performance gains are not worth it in my "opinion". Many will argue. It is up to you in the long run. Good luck.

i have installed it but there is no any speed setting seen

It is there if you installed it correctly.. Just doule click the .reg file. The setting is called "Clock Fregquency Settings"

Perhaps you might try rebooting your computer if it is not there.

the FX5500 is basicly an overclocked FX5200... overclocking will only get you something like a 2fps difference. ;)

same for the 6200... overclocking doesnt help really much. :)

Although the card I have is probably better suited for overclocking, I saw a HUGE difference when I overclocked....

For example, When I played Guild Wars Factions on the stock speed, the whole screen seemed blurry and out of focus... Now when I play Guild Wars Factions, everthing seems crisp and clear..... I also get better results in graphic intense games such as Oblivion too..... I can play Oblivion on High (and maybe even on Ultra High) settings....

In my opinion, you're only really going to get results on higher end cards because the lower end cards can't take the stress as much....

the fx 5500 and 6200 will just heat up a lot more,.. without much of a performance difference.. ( overclocking the 6200 has way more effect than the 5500 tough)

Well by default my GPU's (nvidia geforce fx5500) frequency is core clock frequency is at 270 and memory clock frequency is at 400.Now can anyone tell me how far can i overclock my GPU?It has 256MB memory.

You never know until you try. Try using Google to search for you card, Im sure theres tons of stuff bout o/cin your card.

As I've already said, each card has it's own limits. You could be giving an estimate but that means little. Example, If you had two Nvidia Geforce FX5500's they would both prob. have slightly or drastically different limits. It's just the nature of the beast :).

Can't you just tell me upto how much mhz is safe to clock as i have mentioned my default clock speed

It depends on the individual card, sometimes they can only go up so far, while others can go twice as high as another overclocker.

Its my first time so i am asking so much question. How far can you guys think is good enough and safe for my GPU?pls reply me

I would just go as high as you can, while scanning for artifacts using ATI Tool. Once you start seeing some, back it down 10Mhz or so.

First off, dont expect much out of that card.

Overclocking is a time consuming process. Start with raising the core clock in steps of 3-5MHz using coolbits, testing for stability between every step.

When testing, keep your eyes open for visual artifacts, or any glitches/weird behavior in the game. After you've found the cards maximum core clock, set the clock 3-5MHz slower than maximum and keep it there. Repeat this process on the memory.

There you have the absolute basics in overclocking a nVidia videocard.

after overclocking some mhz the test changes option shows that it unable to test decrease the mhz.Is it the limit of my GPU,and am unable to increase it
