OverClocked - Failed

Ok, i tried overclocking my 2.0 GHZ CPU to a higher number and the screen switched itself off. I now turn on my pc all lights fans etc work yet the screen is black as if it's in stand by mode. The monitor is fine and i tried resetting the CMOS. My mother board is a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 Pro-G it has a dual bios. What could be the problem :(?

How far have you tried to overclock it?

What CPU is it exactly, what cooling you have, have you increased the voltage too? A bit more details please?

Try clearing out the BIOS from the motherboard jumper then restarting it. Also, how fast did you try to OC? How far over spec did you push. As said, did you try to do this on stock HSF setup?

I done it in the bios, i forgot how far i upped the volts and cpu by a tiny bit and my monitor just switched off. The CPU is a 2.0GHZ P4. There is no jumper for the bios as it's a dual bios and the 2ndary chip backs up the main when something goes wrong. I have the basic cooling that came with my pc with a 12cm fan on the back.

Could just be the bios, what revison you running?

My old Gigabyte board, that came out about a year ago had problems with resetting the biosm was a real pain in the arse, i eventually dumped it as I just couldnt get the bios to reset:mad:

Disconnect the power cable and remove the CMOS battery. Leave it out for at least 15 minutes (perhaps longer). Put it back in and power on the machine.

Sometimes it's possible to temporarily move a jumper which resets the FSB and clock settings, allowing you to boot the system, lower the settings and then replace the jumper.

I would have tried raising just the FSB first before overvolting.

I tried pulling out the battery for 15 mins it didn't work. The computer is not pre-built i built it. I really think the motherboard is broken. If that's the case how would i go about getting a new motherboard. I couldn't just buy anyone could i?. Would i have to buy the exact same mobo?.

The board was a GA-8IPE1000 Pro-G (Gigabyte) Wasn't too old

when you pulled out the cmos battery did you also unplug the cord. if its plugged in even if you remove the battery it'l still remember all the settings. you have to take out the cord and the battery and then let it sit for 20-30 seconds. you may have taken out the cord too just saying because many people overlook that point

Yes i reseted the CMOS with the jumper nothing worked. I've tried everything (resetting wise in bios and the cmos etc etc). I honestly think maybe the CPU has blown?

My guess is its your board..

Like I said I had exactly the same problem.
Try to get your hands on another one, just to check if it is:)

That was the prob I had....excatly the same CMOS problem I had.
