Overclocked GPU

for some reason when I overclock my GPU and play most of my games their is gliches, like in CSS ill be playing then black lines start appearing and disappearing (and they dont just go across my screen, sometimes down or even diagnal). It really isnt a big deal just wondering if I could fix it.

Thats probably why, how much are you increasing the clocks at a time, you should never do it in 1 huge jump, just start again at default and go up by 2-5Mhz at a time (core and 10Mhz a time (memory clock) then keep overclocking and checking your temps untill you get problems, if you do get probs then just lower it slightly:)

Those black lines and glitches are called artifacts.

If you want to overclock your CPU, you should definately do it from BIOS, and go up in 3-5MHz FSB/HTT increments, until you hit instability, then you can raise the VCore and try and overclock more if your temps aren't already too high.

If you are looking to raise the VCore for overclocking, I would invest in an aftermarket HSF.

yea, overclocking the gpu with artifacts just means its not getting enough voltage for the clocks you set... its not necessarily heat though.
my 7800gt ran fine at 70F but the clocks could go over 490 + 1.2ghz
try setting your to 460mhz and 1.15ghz
that should be good.

Your 7800GT ran at 70 degrees Fahrenheit?

If so, that's amazing. 70C sounds more realistic though.

ok, my CPU runs at 2.2GHz (default) and my defauly multiplier is 200, and i think that my defauly Vcore is 1.35. so, with all of that said at which multplier should i increase myvcore do you think.

200 isn't your multiplier, it's your HTT frequency.

Go ahead and raise it in increments of 5MHz. You may need to instate a RAM divider to keep the RAM running at DDR400, as you raise the HTT.

haha im sry im a little sleepy today... i meant 70C. but yea, i mean it ran fine at 70C with lower clocks... but with the fan going @ 48C + the clocks higher than it can go, it began to give me artifacts.

ok, i have another question when I up the clock speeds do i up both (memor and core) at the same time or memory (get the max, or what your happy with) then core (get the max, or what your happy with)?

It depends, you can do both at the same time or only do one. I prefer to do one at a time, that way you can figure out the max for both the core and the memory, and have the best optimal overclock.

yep find whats stable for core, and then find whats stable for mem... then set it 5-10mhz lower and leave it to make sure its stable and you dont get artifacts.
