so i just overclocked my q6600, first time i ever over clocked n e thing, saw a post on page 2 "need help overclockin my q6600" and a guy said to, put the cpu voltage to 1.4, multiplier to 9x, and the fsb to 1334, so i did in my bios, saved it, and ran core temp to see where im at, i have the zalman cnps9700 cooler, and the cpu is idleing at around 46 degrees celcius... is that about normal...and i beleive it b3 stepping.

fast update...lol..

on "core temp it shows im running around 46 degrees celcius, but on my "Nvidia Monitor" it says the cpu temp is at 36 degrees celcius..?? which should i go by?

First of all, it the nVidia monitor is nTune, i suggest you uninstall it right away! it will trash your system, and or corrupt windows. ie nTune is the Devil!

Ok with that out of the way :P in CPUZ does it say your stepping is B3 or G0? G0 is better but B3 is ok. You can lower you voltage little at a time and run Orthos "prime95" to test whats the lowest stable voltage = less heat. No point in giving it more voltage that it needs.. i suggest run orthos for no less than an hour, and keep an eye on your load temps, you can try using "TAT" or core temp.

4 real. Get rid of it. nVMonitor sucks as well, and it's hella inaccurate.

That was my post you're referring to, and yes, that's a good approach to OC'ing the Q6600. As thatguy said, you need to start lowering your voltage. My voltage is set at 1.35 in the BIOS. However, your actual voltage will be somewhere between 1.29 - 1.3.

Of course, you can try to get further than 3.1 GHz - that was just a good place to start. :)

BTW, if your temps are that high @ 3.1, you probably have the B3 stepping. Welcome to the club. :(
