Overclocking 4870

Has any had much time/experience with OC a 4870?

How far can you push the GPU clock and Memory Clock in CCC with the stock cooling?

Normally with good cooling you should max out the specs in ATI Overdrive which apart of the CCC suite that comes with ATI's drivers. I did with my 4850 and a VF1000 by zalman.

i used AMD gpu clock tool!

you can OC it beyond what just the CCC panel for ATI.

i have my card OC'ed at 818.2MHz(gpu clock) & 1200MHz(memory)

I also tweaked the fan settings in profiles.

As for fan settings/speed...Every machine is different for cooling and air flow and take in account where you live, you might just have to play around with the XML file till your satisified with your card temp.

Currently i have mine at 40% and the temp is 42C, which is fine... this is with the OC of card too

How much extra performance on games like Crysis etc does OCing get? Cause Im trying to decide if voiding my warrantly is worth it or not?

I havnt really tried Crysis yet after OC'ing... not really my kinda game...love First person shooter games and mostly play UT2004, and your prolly know that that game dosnt take much to max it out lol.

although with the 4870, I have noticed enough more frames and soo much smoother.

I dont thknk you can void the warrenty if you use the CCC panel for ATI.
Other than that like using other tool to OC, I dont know if that would effect the warrenty. So I cant answer that and hopefully someone can :)

Ok I just tried this.

Although all the sliders say: GPU: 850mhz & Memory: 1200mhz.

But below that it says:

Current Clock Settings: GPU: 500mhz Memory: 1200mhz???

What does this mean? Plus the temps havnt changed at all?

you used the AMD tool i take it?

if so, the current clock settings mean that currently thats what your MHz are at the percise time. lol that prolly sounded funny. couldnt think of how to say that!

Of course when gaming or more intense application that demand to use your graphic card more the clock settings will increase to adapt.

your temp most likely havnt been set right! did you set the fan in the XML file?
Plus did you even make a profile using CCC panel?

I used ATi Overdrive in CCC.

Yeah ive got a profile called "fanspeed" in which Ive set the fan speed as 40% in the xml file.

So the current thing is just what is it at the moment? I also downloaded GPUz and it shows lower again??
