Overclocking 8800GTS

Ok. I have an 8800GTS 320Mb which was running at around 513/792MHz. I took it up to 640/920 using Riva Tuner. Games seem to be running better however when I tried to benchmark with 3DMark06 I only got a 3% increase in the total score.

Why is that?

I am sorry but I dont know what you mean. Can you make yourself clear?

3dmarks and other benchmarking programs use hardware different to games and otehr programs.

Hell, even games use it differently than other games, and benchmark programs use it differently to other benchmark programs.

Basically, 3dmarks is programmed differently to a game. you use your graphics for games primarily so that is where it matters. Because 3Dmarks says there is only a 3% increase means there is a 3% increase in 3d marks, not in games and other programs, there it is clearly much higher if you are seeing performance increase

plus if your overclock only raised you that much in the benchmark, then the cpu is whats holding down your score. try overclocking that :)

I am afraid to overclock the CPU because it might burn it and I heard that if you overclock the CPU you need to change its cooling system.

What programs do you use to overclock a CPU safely? Or you do it only through BIOS?
