Overclocking a processor...

Well, people have told me that i could overclock a sempron 3200+ should i do it???

I didnt say its inpossbile. You really can't overclock them that much that it would give you a huge boost in performance. If you want to go ahead, it wont make that much of a difference.

Why not? Semprons may not overclock as well as other AMD processors, but you should still get a significant boost by oc'in it.

What are you going to gain? 100mhz? 200mhz? That really isent that big of a boost.

Who said thats all you'll get? You may be able to get anywhere from 500Mhz to 1Ghz higher, or more. Some people have even gotten semprons past 4Ghz.

I'd like to see this...

His sempron is at 1.8ghz....He would be luck to get to it 2.2 or 2.3ghz.

You cant get 4ghz on a sempron.

Have you ever heard of a program called Photoshop??? Theres no way it can remain stable at 3.3ghz
It's obvious you haven't used the CPU-Z Validator before.

You don't post the actual screenshot of your CPU-Z up there, you upload the .cvf file which is generated by the CPU-Z program to the CPU-Z Validator page, which then does checksum tests to make sure that the .cvf file is unmodified.

I have used it before but I didnt know about the .cvf file

correct.

i would not believe any really high clocks out of a sempron, they are not that great for overclocking. i would expect a regular XP to do better actually.

The highest overclock on an Athlon XP was ~3.6Ghz, with an XP 2500+ Barton.

im afraid to overclock, i dont have alot of money to buy any pc parts and i cant break my current rig.....so weep for me!

Go into the mobo bios and look for an option that lets you raise the bus. By raising the bus, you overclock the cpu and memory.

My BIOS doesn't give me chance to change the bus speed...

Then 200 MHz wont change anything????

"change anything" is a bit broad. a 200MHz boost will not me noticable by most anybody. You can only tell of a speed increase by looking at benchmarks, or FPS sometimes. You may get like .2 seconds faster in superPI...depending on the processor and stick speed of course.
