overclocking e2160

ok well i have read the 101 on overclocking but just a few questions.

for the pentium d e2160, what is a safe setting to be at. not dangerous but not week. i did not use the stock cooler and got a nice big one so it will not over heat easly, i have the gigabyte ga-p35-ds3l board.

and so i hear you dont want to up the voltage. could someone just touch up on it. the 101 was more a 102. had to follow :D

my suggestion is just to turn up the voltage .2 or .1875 volts, and then set the speed to around 3GHZ.

ok. also a nother question that just poped up. do i want to do this in the bios or the tweeking software gigabyt gave me to go on xp?

my advice there is to uninstall that crap completely, it might let you overclock a little bit but all you end up with is a BSOD, or worse.

the bios is your friend, and its really easy to use.

yeah, i just did not know if there was an advantage to one over the other. thanks

also how hard is it to fry a processor/memory

very.

the biggest problem you should run into will be failure to boot into the operating system, or failure to post.

oh, and when the motherboard fails to post, simply take out that little button battery you can see in there, leave it out for a few minutes, put it back in and try again

as an example for you, i had my processor running at 3.3 GHZ on the stock intel cooler, it idled at 42C and hit 65C when loaded, but it worked.

ok thx. guess its goot the cheepest is also the best to over clock. so if i mess up only 50 bux spent

fifty bucks for that? and to believe i payed 120 for mine!

i guess all i was paying for was a higher multiplier (11) and the extra MB of cache...

yeah well my budget was tight. and well 1.8 seemed good since many say i can over clock it to 3.0 ish. i plan to make this comp rly good. one step at a time  first the motherboard then maybe the power supply then hard drives and processor

I'm getting this CPU too, hey brian!

I didn't want to make another thread if this one's here, so what about the OC'ing? anybody know good settings to make work overclocked say at 3GHz??

:D

*edit* BTW: I'm also getting the GA-P35-DS3L just to let you'all know.

I run my E2180 at 9x multiplier (essentially making it an E2160) with a 334 FSB. The voltage is set at 1.4375. I could not get 10 minutes stable in Orthos with 1.425 voltage, then just a .0125 voltage increase and I am Orthos stable for 8 hours. I tried a few higher FSB's, but I'm running at 50 degrees under full load, and I like to keep my proc cool. I find 3.0 Ghz on a C2D is plenty enough to play Crysis.

It may take some work to get a decent OC, but keep bumping your values up slowly and you'll get there. Crysis was not even playable on High when my proc was at 2.0 Ghz, but after OC, it runs really smooth.
