Overclocking E6400

I have the E6400 and I over clocked it to 2.88GHz by pushing the FSB to 358 and installing a good cooler. I would like to push it further however if I do it does not recognize the hard disk drives and windows don't start. I already flashed the BIOS and I have the CPU Voltage set to auto. I tried to play with CPU voltage but I did not solve the problem. I tried to lower the RAM frequency but it still did not solve the problem so I have it set to auto too now.

Any suggestions? I heard people running this CPU at 3.2GHz.

Your problems relate to isntability, you need to raise the voltage higher. what did you set it to before you put it back on auto? I'd try to keep it around 1.35 but mine is at 1.4 because i need it there, and it isn't too hot.

I tried to do what you said but I had the same problem. I tried 3.35V and 3.4 but nothing solved. I am uploading a photo of the BIOS maybe it helps.

Thanks

Can you get it stable at 3ghz with 1.35v or 1.4v? what are your temps like at 1.35v and 1.4v?

My chip won't go much higher than 3ghz with 1.4v, and my board (P5N-E Sli) is known for good overclocks. I get BSOD's. i think you have hit the limit with your chip...

If it is stable at 2.88ghz with auto voltage that is very good, i had to up my voltage quite a bit to get to 2.88ghz

Yes at 2.88Ghz it's very stable, I've had it for a month and been playing games such as NFS Shift and do not have any problems. I could not move the FSB to 359 even when I upped the voltage as you told. Don't know why, maybe cannot over clock more with my motherboard.

Can it be coming from the Power Supply? I have my 8800 GTS over clocked too. Maybe when I oc the CPU more it takes more power and there is not enough power for the hard drives. Don't know just guessing.

come to think of it you may be experiencing a FSB hole, a defect in the motherboard. try lowering the multiplier to 8 and upping the FSB to 400mhz, while upping the FSB voltage by .1V or so

if you lower the multiplier and cannot even reach 2.88ghz again, then it is your motherboard holding you back, not your cpu voltage. the fsb i gave you will set it to 3.2ghz

multiplier is at 8. I tried to put FSB to 400 and multiplier to 7 and 6 and I still had the same problem. Did not detect the hard drives.

I'd say your motherboard is limiting you now. 450w might be pushing it for overclocked hardware. Don't go crazy and buy a 1000w psu though :P

I only got my 860w because it was $40 AU, and my current one at the time had issues. If you do want a new PSU, get something in the 650w-800w range, will give you some headroom for overclocking and new components.
