So I've been having this issue with my PC for a while. I wanted to start it up and it wouldn't POST. After several restarts and shut downs I got the error message 'overclocking failed, press F1... etc.'
I set everything to default in BIOS, restarted and then again it wouldn't POST.
After several attempts I managed to get into Windows, rebooted and again the same issue. Sometimes it would not POST, other times it would cause the overclocking error. Clearing the CMOS wouldn't solve the issue, changed the CMOS battery and nothing.
Tested the RAM it was fine. One at a time, different slots, etc.
Tested the video card it was fine. In another PC.
Several forum posts later I had ordered a replacement PSU as changing my own with an older one seemed to resolve the issue. Unfortunately the new one faced the same issue. Either I am very unlucky and got a bad one or I'm an idiot.
Tested both PSU's with another computer and they work without a hitch.
So I've come to the conclusion that it has to be either the motherboard or the CPU. I have no way of testing them.
Which one of them do you think is likely to be the culprit?
My system is:
AMD FX 8320 3.5GHz
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0
2 x 8GB HyperX 1866
Sapphire Radeon Tri-X R9 290 4GB
Corsair 850RMi
