overclocking GPU

Ive seen some posts about overclocking the video cards in machines. I currently have an Evga Gtx 570 and was interested in overclocking it if possible.

I would assume you would use the Evga Precision program to do so. ( I have not downloaded it yet)

What are the issues of overclocking the card and is it worth it to do so?

Your 570 will give great performance in games already. There isn't really a need to OC it yet. Unless you want to just for fun :D

EVGA Precision is good, Look into MSI afterburner as well.

Ok, issues:
Higher heat

shortened lifespan, but not by much. Card will be outdated before it would die from OCing provided that you are not taking it to extreme voltages.

While your PSU is a good 500w, I am not too sure how it will hold up to an OC on that card. If you find the max without any voltage adjustments, I think you will be able to have a stable OC.

i wouldn't overclock it now as you should be getting way over 60fps in every game maxed out, so you won't get anything but a shortened lifespan.

I have a mild overclock on my EVGA GTX 570 (800MHz Core, 1600MHz Shader without any voltage increases) and I used MSI Afterburner for it. Fantastic program.
