Overclocking my fx 5200

ive got a geforce fx5200, in a 4x AGP slot.
i know how to overclock my gpu and ram speed.

i can put the gpu speed up to 600 MHz (ok, dont think it'l run at that speed very well :P ) and i can put the Ram speed to 960 MHz (think thats not recommendable either.) what i want to ask is. if i overclock it, will it have visible effect in games. and at what clock should i put it.

Note, its the nvidia fx 5200, so not MSI or asus or whatever =)

overclocking a 5200 is kinda a waste of time, at most you might see a 5fps increase, I got maybe 3 with my old 5200 when I OC'ed it.

You may notice a difference within games but I doubt it would be large. Thing is you might also see a difference in games that is not to your liking such as artifacts from a hot videocard. Fact is it don't hurt to overclock your gpu as long as you don't overdue it and you are indeed making it run faster so that can be all bad :). Just don't overdue it or you'll have undesirable effects. Also I've noticed from past experience that overclocking is more of a bencher's game, meaning that you can greatly increase your score in certain benchmarks but usually not that big of a difference in games. Just my opinion on overclocking.

Well start overclocking until obvious signs of "not right" appear :)

If you pump an extra 200MHz into a 5200 yer gonna see more than a 5fps improvement (of course it wont be like an extra 40fps either)

except you can't overclock it that much without screwing up the card, and spending money on extra cooling for a fx5200 is a waste.

if you're using the coolbits registry hack just let the driver overclock it for you... it worked for me when i had a 5200... its not really worth overclocking though cos the performance gains are very small and generally not noticable :)

The overclocability of a card is card-dependent (and yes its possible ... uncommon ... but possible)

I overclocked my fx 5200. Basically I overclocked it until funky things appeared. I used Need for Speed Underground as a test. When my car started bleeding walls from its sides I knew it was too much and to take it down a step :P Anyway, I couldnt get too much extra mhz out of it. I cant remember how much I actually did get.

When I ahd my FX5200 at 650/1020, I noticed very little difference....
