Overclocking Pentium D

Hey!
I've got a computer with an Intel Pentium D processor..
i've just checked the hardware profiles on the Processor and its...

2x 3.00GHz..
i want to overclock it..
should i just increase the FHB Rate.. if it is that in the BIOS?...
Or is there a better or more efficient way?..
i can't afford to risk burning my computer or what not... so offer a safe solution?

I have the 840

I was able to oclock mine to 30% faster without any problems but every processor is a bit different and i got mine to 4.160 i imagine that you should be able to get your processor to at least i dunno 15-20% faster without any problems as long as you have sufficient cooling...

were you talking about the motherboard earlier on?...
cause i don't know..
my mate also has Pentium D
and he had a slider apparantly with GHz on it
i couldn't find this option in my BIOS
but i remember reading that i could just alter the FSB rate?
how did you over clock it?

I used the asus tool that i have with my mobo...what kind of mobo do u have? and did it come with any tools with it..?SOFTWARE tools...
 
If its a prebuilt machine (compaq, hp, sony, dell, ect) then you cant overclock it in BIOS. You may be able to find a windows based overclocking utility though.
 
I've got an 820 2.8GHz, and I've had it overclocked and stable at 3.42GHz. But make sure you've got something other than stock cooling to get rid of the heat these Pentium D's produce.

i've got a Packard Bell..
thats probably why i haven't got options in my BIOS
what would u recommend i use for overclocking?
and since i got a PB u'd knw that i ain't got no extraordinary cooling device..
