Overclocking problem?

I recently put together a new computer and it is so great so far except for one problem. my computer just happened to shut off as soon as i try to overclock my evga gtx 570 with "evga precision." am i doing it wrong?

computer specs:

coolermaster storm scout with maxed out fan
i7 2600k
evga gtx 570
corsair 750 watt
1tb hdd
8 gb 1866 mhz vengeance corsair

also i was wondering if it's worth it to upgrade from regular gtx 570 to super overclocked gtx 570.

The very slight boost you get wouldn't be noticeable in any real world application. Any reason you want to OC your 570? Very beasty card. can probably handle whatever you throw at it at stock.

Regardless, make sure it is up to date with the latest drivers from Nvidia and not just the ones that came on the disk. If the program you are using doesn't work, try a different one, or do it manually.
 
could get nvidia system tools, don't they come with the drivers, and use it to bump it up, works better for me than precision cuz sometimes prec. doesn't actually change my clocks when i look in other apps.
 
I just wanted to overclock for a few extra fps on frap haha. and is it worth it to spend $20 extra to upgrade to an overclock one?
 
you can get evga precision and overclock it more than that, and their the same card on a different clock aren't they so they'll hit the same max.
