hi guys i currently overclocked my intel core 2 quad Q6600 from 2.4ghz to 2.8ghz and have temprature of 45 degrees celcius idle and in prime95 have max of 61 degrees celcius. is this temprature safe? and can i overclock it a little more to maybe 3.00ghz or maybe 3.2ghz? i currently have a stock intel fan and don't plan to upgrade it. these are my computer specs.

abit ip35-e motherboard
intel core 2 duo Q6600 (stock intel fan)
corsair xms2 pc6400 2 gigs
bfg 7300gt
western digital 500gig
raidmax 420 watt power supply
raidmax case
two antec tricool fans (front and back)

you might be able to go to 3.0ghz but i wouldnt go further then 2.8 especially with the stock heat sink, when u run it all your cores on 100% how many minuites did you run it for, if it can run for 30 minuites in the 60c zone then this is okay, i run mine oced at 3.6 and gete 60c oc and 30 idle

I would check you cpu temp as well as your core temps during stress and if your cpu temp is above your core temps than your cpu sensor might be off.

Then again I don't know much about Intel processors.
During my stress my cpu hits mid 60C's while my core temps stay around mid 40C's, but there is know way it is getting in the 60's because the heatsink never burns on touch.

You should be able to get higher then 2.8GHz with the stock cooler, I got to 3.6GHz with a $20 aftermarket fan which didn't help temps too much at all anyways.
