Overclocking RAM

Can I overclock my RAM by going to 7-8-7-24 or even lower?

I'm not sure the temperature they're running at now. Any program to see this? All my other components run pretty cool. Would I need to change the voltage at all if I do this? And is it really even worth it? If there's no danger, I still would like to do it just for fun/learning experience. Would it be a good idea to run prime95 if I overclock them?
 
Eh, maybe. To be honest, you can usually gain more memory permanence by making sure all the timings and voltages are set correctly, and overclock the CPU a bit more. Those low of timings, you may need to bump the voltage up a bit more, and make sure the Command Rate is set to 2T instead of 1T. But even doing that, if you can make them boot with a 1T CR, i think it would be better performing then those low of timings.

Are you still running the AMD processor? If so, you should try Gauged and Ungauged modes. I run my Gskill 2000 at 7-7-7-24-1T 1.63v ungauged. It was much slower running 7-7-7-22-2T 1.63v gauged.

It's all about making small changes, benchmarking, comparing results, and starting over again. AIDA64 (formally Everest) is an AMAZING program for quick benchmarks.
 
Like said, you can try 1.65. Look and see what the Command Rate is. If its at 1T and you change it to 2T, I dont know if it will help because 2T would probably counter the benefit you get from the lower timming. Ungauged mode tends to be more stable then Gauged, so if its at Gauged, try Ungauged.
 
Well, nothing worked at 1.65. Tried 7-7-7-24 ungauged at 1t and 2t, and both failed and I had to switch back. It was already on ungauged, so I left that, and changed from 2T to 1T at my stock 8-8-8-24 1.5v. So ungauged is more stable, but gauged gives better performance? What happens if I stay at my stock timings and voltages with 1T, and change to gauged? Would I need to up the voltage for that?
 
There is really no point in overclocking RAM because you will see no difference. You're just going to make your RAM run at higher temperatures and if not done correctly you could end up frying the RAM.
 
Now I'm thinking of overclocking it to 1866mhz if I end up getting a FX 6100 cheap. Would I just change the speed and then the timings? I'm thinking of trying to do 9-9-9-27. Think I'll need to up the voltage?

Yeah, if you didn't see, I bumped this thread after a couple weeks. Lower timings didn't work, so if I end up getting a FX 6100, I'd go up to 1866. I don't think there'd be that big of a difference with the FX CPUs and their memory controllers.
