Overclocking the HD3850...

How far should I get? I have a 70mm fan blowing at it from a PCI Expansion slot. Blows directly at the heatsink, not the fan. So that helps a bit... it's adjustable speed and is currently at HIGH....

How far of a overclock fan you predict? With no artifacting that is...

The heatsink is covered in plastic therefore I don't understand why having the fan blow on it does any good. And I don't know how much you can OC it but since at stock speed under load the thing sits around 90c I wouldn't OC it much.

Im not sure on the overclocking, i used riva tuner to turn the fan up a bit.. it was idle 60c and load 90c, i turned the fan up to 50% fixed.. and now idle 38c and load 65c :D

Regardless, even though the cards are different, turning up the fan speed will help.

I saw someone with the 3850 get 725/850.. but i don't know if it was stock cooling

Oooh :D When my RAM comes back :D Care to elaborate how you turn the fan speeds up?

(and I haven't shipped the RAM yet :( you know why))

But will, the first one was DOA, the second one comes today (to bad I'll be gone).

I still can't imagine how you have the fan blowing on it, care to elaberate?

download rivatuner, click the small arrow beside the video card name and select low-level system settings/fan. Don't do 100% unless you want the fan to die :P

Meh, sure :) I'm sending my RAM back today :D Hopefully I get it back by next week. Then I start to OC again :D

Does bad RAM affect overclock?

Oh wait, sorry. There's 2 fans actually. The rear one stinks (Ahh... cheap rosewill :D)

There's 2 80mm case fans blowing IN from the side. There is another expansion fan blowing IN to the GFX. There is 2 PSU fans blowing OUT. And one cheap and slow and weak Rosewill 80mm case fan blowing OUT. :)
