sorry, i thought you were suggesting that an unlocked cpu cant be overclocked like an locked, see i never have an unlocked cpu and as you know my knowledge on AMD's is very limited. lol

People chat a lot of bollocks. If it goes over 50C the you can remove the blue plate ( just peel it off ) and you will drop a good few degrees and an added fan will help even more, they really don't run very hot. But they do oc brilliantly

Look at this, this is a price list of some of the AMD's, its stupid and some of those phenoms are athlon 2's.

AMD Phenom II Quad Core X4 620 2,6Ghz AM3/2Mb/Caja 73,47
AMD Phenom II Quad Core X4 630 2,8Ghz AM3/2Mb/Caja 84,36
AMD Phenom II Quad Core X4 905e 2,5Ghz AM3/8Mb/Caja 156,87
AMD Phenom II Quad Core X4 920 2,8Ghz AM2+/8Mb/Caja 149,75
AMD Phenom II Quad Core X4 940 3,0Ghz AM2+/8Mb/Caja 133,64
AMD Phenom II Quad Core X4 945 3,0Ghz AM3/8Mb/Caja 125,44
AMD Phenom II Quad Core X4 955 3,2Ghz AM3/8Mb/Caja 118,86
AMD Phenom II Quad Core X4 965 3,4Ghz AM3/8Mb/Caja 134,14

Well in that case go for the AMD Phenom II Quad Core X4 955 3,2Ghz AM3/8Mb/Caja 118,86
If its a c3 stepping then you are golden :D They are the best clocking amd out atm.

On the topic of the CPU itself:
The 955 is a VERY easy overclock. I'm practically clueless when it comes to fiddling with voltage, but somehow I was able to get my 955 to 4GHz and I left it at 3.6GHz to feel more comfortable. Now, don't even consider going to a 965 unless you're getting an amazing deal on it. The 965 and the 955 are essentially the same except for the obvious clock speeds. After looking at a multitude of tests, the 965 beats the 955 by an unnoticable amount in most cases, and in some cases it actually loses to the 955. I had a 965 at one time (when they were relatively new) and after doing some small tests like 3DMark CPU Score, SuperPi, and another test I can't recall, I found that the 955, when overclocked using only the mutliplier, matches or outperforms the 965. I also tried to find each CPUs easily-reached MHz peak and (it could have just been a Monday or Friday chip) the 965 ended up getting to about 3.9GHz before it reached the max temp I established (which was roughly 60C, not so much, but an easy test temp). Sorry I don't have any graphs or real proof for you, I only did the tests to figure out which CPU I would return to NewEgg in their return period.

(Xigmatek Dark Knight for cooling, AS5 for TIM)

yeah i had same thought. How do you think it will shape up to my computer in my sig, with the same memory and graphics card?

On a par with a higher clock, which you will get. If it's a c3 then you are pretty much guaranteed a 4ghz OC

LMAO I don't even know what stepping my CPU is...

How do you figure out if an AMD chip is a C3?

A gm in the code eg

AMD Phenom™ II X4 965 HDZ965FBK4DGM 3400Mhz 4000Mhz 125W
AMD Phenom™ II X4 955 HDX955FBK4DGM 3200Mhz 4000Mhz 125W
AMD Phenom™ II X4 955 HDX955FBK4DGI 3200Mhz 4000Mhz 125W
AMD Phenom™ II X4 945 HDX945WFK4DGM 3000Mhz 4000Mhz 95W
AMD Phenom™ II X4 925 HDX925WFK4DGM 2800Mhz 4000Mhz 95W
AMD Phenom™ II X4 910e HD910EOCK4DGM 2600Mhz 4000Mhz 65W

Or a c3 in cpu-z eg http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=957643

GA-MA790X-UD3P, its a decent board. I like the UD4P better, but the UD3P is ok. Better then the others in your post.

yeah, lol. Its just a long list, they havent taken much time categorizing everything and load of stuff in the wrong place. That board is 80 euros / 113 dollars, just in budget.

Yeah, like I said at the begining of the thread, you need a quality 10 phase setup, with good caps., mosfets and PCB board. Better then those 785 boards.
